Rooftop RV air conditioners fail in a handful of predictable ways, and telling them apart matters. A unit that hums but won't cool, one that trips the breaker, and one that blows cold but barely moves air are three completely different repairs — and only one of them means you're buying a new A/C.

We test capacitors, blower motors, thermostats, control boards and shore power under load before recommending anything. A lot of "dead" units are a $40 part and an hour of work.

Yes. Full rooftop unit replacement is done right where the RV is parked, including the roof opening, gasket and wiring.

Is it worth repairing an old unit?

Sometimes. If it's a capacitor or a blower wheel, repair usually makes sense. If the compressor is gone, replacement is almost always the better money.
